It’s been a hard start to 2018, but with every challenge there is a silver lining. The natural disasters in our backyard have clouded our heads for over a month but in the after math we have seen our community pull together to support each other. That makes us pretty dang happy.

It’s pretty fun to brew beer. It’s even more fun to share it. And, it is exceptionally satisfying to be able to support the people and places we love in our community. We call this Good Beer Karma.

We know building our community back up will take some time and effort and for the month of February we have partnered up with the Community Disaster Relief Fund at the Santa Barbara Foundation. This fund was built and activated in the aftermath of an emergency to support nonprofit organizations in short-term and long-term recovery. It will help to support a multitude of locally focused not-for-profits.

The Santa Barbara Foundation is collaborating with the Santa Barbara County Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (SBC VOAD) and has been monitoring the response and needs from nonprofit organizations that are assisting individuals and families that have been displaced from these disasters. As these needs transition from short-term into long-term recovery operations the foundation will assess the situation and make funding decisions as necessary.

We hope you will come in to support the cause with a Karma Pint or donate what you can directly the Community Disaster Relief Fund at the Santa Barbara Foundation. These are the organizations/members of SBC VOAD:

  • Direct Relief and Santa Barbara County Public Health Department
  • Foodbank of Santa Barbara County
  • Independent Living Resource Center
  • Institute for Congregational Trauma & Growth (ICTG)
  • American Red Cross Central Coast Region
  • Salvation Army (Santa Barbara and Ventura Corps)
  • Search Dog Foundation
  • Unity Shoppe
  • United Way of Santa Barbara County
